Christina’s family picked him up from the hospital, took him up the McKenzie to retrieve his bike, and invited him to Christina’s son’s baseball game. They made him part of their family and ensured he was able to get home safely.
I would like to nominate Christina Hyde for The DAISY Award. She took care of a patient who was riding a bike across the country. He had fallen off his bike and severely broke his clavicle. He was miles away from his bike and was too injured to ride it to get home or to even put up his tent, which he was sleeping in throughout his journey. Christina asked if we could help him get a hotel room until he could figure things out in the morning. Unfortunately, with the Olympic Trials occurring, hotels were either unavailable or way too expensive. The patient ended up spending the night in the ED so he would be able to continue to receive medications as needed and have a safe place to stay for the night. The next morning, Christina’s family picked him up from the hospital, took him up the McKenzie to retrieve his bike, and invited him to Christina’s son’s baseball game. They made him part of their family and ensured he was able to get home safely. They continued getting updates from him once he returned home and had surgery on his injury. Christina led by example that day and I am so proud to say that I work with such an amazing nurse.
