With Mrs. Pearson’s fast thinking/acting and knowledge, she was able to clear the patient’s airway and save her life.
Mrs. Pearson went to check in on her 9-month-old patient with a technician in training when she began to notice that the patient’s face was turning red as she was coughing. She instructed her orientee to sit the patient upright. The mom of the patient did a finger sweep to ensure there was not a foreign object in the patient’s airway. The patient was then laid supine on the scale to obtain height when she began to choke again, her face turning red, almost purple, and began gasping for air. Mrs. Pearson immediately picked up the patient and turned her over to administer back blows hoping to dislodge the object that was blocking the patient's airway. With Mrs. Pearson’s fast thinking/acting and knowledge, she was able to clear the patient’s airway and save her life. Her compassion speaks volumes about the type of person and nurse she is. Mrs. Pearson has been and continues to be a vital part of the Pediatric Clinic. She is one of the most diligent LPNs that we have had the opportunity to work with.
