Mia Chapman has demonstrated superior leadership in not just the PACU but also the SDU on the 5th Floor. She actively helps staff both in a professional capacity via assisting with direct patient care as well as by ensuring that the unit has everything necessary for the staff to provide the best quality of care our patients deserve. On a personal level, she listens to all of our concerns whether they be related to our work concerns or even personal concerns at home, empathizes, and helps us with balancing our work life and personal life through schedule changes and accommodations. She has also provided information and guidance on ways to better educate ourselves to advance and further our ability to support HSS's day-to-day operations. Her continued encouragement and commitment to continuing education as well as her continued transparency with things taking place on the unit and within the hospital has fostered a positive work environment and as such has led to effective and efficient teamwork among myself and fellow staff. I started at HSS a year ago, and even though many other PCAs on other floors told me I would get tired of being here, it actually is quite the opposite. I do not see myself leaving HSS voluntarily within the next 5 years and I certainly find it difficult to see myself on any unit that is not under Nurse Chapman's leadership.
