Over and over the wife would tell me what a great nurse I get to work with, and how supported she felt (and still feels) by her.
I have worked with September for over 10 years. During that time, she has provided extraordinary compassionate care to innumerable patients and families.

One of my favorite examples is several years back when I was going to perform a home visit on a patient with Lewy Body Dementia. I asked her where the portable blood pressure cuffs were, and when she found out what I was doing, she volunteered to come with me on her day off. We went out to the patient's home in rural Le Sueur together and conducted the home visit. This included getting vitals, evaluating the home (and horse barn) for safety, and reconciling medications. This meant the world to the patient and spouse and provided great insight into their living conditions. Over the following 3 years, the patient continued to decline until together as a team, based on what we learned that day about his challenges at home, he needed to move into a nursing home. He was safe and comfortable when he died, and his wife, who is still a patient of ours, is grateful. September kept in close touch with the wife after the home visit, both via telephone and in-person when the wife presented for a visit. Over and over the wife would tell me what a great nurse I get to work with, and how supported she felt (and still feels) by her.

I have many other examples of September going above and beyond for patients. She lives and breathes kindness and takes great pride in the work she does every day for her patients. Additionally, she strives for quality inpatient care and when she's not interacting 1:1 with patients, she works to improve the quality care lists for the providers and patients she covers. Without prompting, she will call patients in for a BP check, or reach out to them via phone or portal to see how their asthma or mood is doing. She is truly inspiring in her work.
