That awareness of privacy and my emotional needs of being close to my spouse to feel safe contributed to an overall good experience.
Whitney has been so kind and caring. I arrived in my room sore and disoriented. She was attentive, gracious, and helped me get comfortable. She explained everything I needed to know – and in a calm, friendly way that made me feel safe and put me at ease. She responded swiftly whenever my husband used the call button for requests (like an extra pillow or a question we had). Whitney frequently checked on me. She communicated so well, which meant my pain level was properly managed throughout the day. As a patient, I had to do things that I would consider embarrassing – like viewing wounds in private areas or receiving assistance using the bathroom. Whitney was so thoughtful and aware of these sensitive moments. She would discretely adjust my gown to provide a sense of dignity and would also think to quickly close or open doors to obstruct the public view. That awareness of privacy and my emotional needs of being close to my spouse to feel safe contributed to an overall good experience. I felt so well cared for and more at peace, which really matters after a major surgery. Whitney always approached me delicately and respectfully. She answered all my questions and explained next steps. The way she handled my questions and responses validated me as a person. Whitney even went a step further by sharing a personal story of her own. She didn’t do this to talk about herself; she opened up about these deeply private issues because it was a way to affirm the decision I had made regarding my procedure. I cannot overstate how meaningful those personal connections can be to patients who are vulnerable and struggle to make hard decisions.
