Anna structures her teaching to promote wellness rather than focusing on being sick.
Anna has worked in the PICU for nearly a year and a half, which hardly seems real when you look at all that she has done to impact the future of the PICU through on-boarding and education. In this short time, she has transformed PICU education for new and experienced nurses/PCTs and developed stronger leadership skills along the way. She demonstrates a heart full of passion for pediatric critical care nursing day in and day out, providing support to staff nurses working in the PICU and throughout Nemours Hospital. Navigating healthcare during a crisis requires strong leaders to promote guidance. This can be strenuous and overwhelming, Anna is this type of a leader. She walks through difficult life-changing times with grace and professionalism. Anna puts her game face on at all hours of the day and night to assure that staff feel supported and can meet their educational requirements.

She demonstrates her creativity by developing an escape room to teach new graduate nurses about the endocrine system, engages new staff to sign off experienced nurses on CPR compressions, and shares the PCT class with a fellow PCT to assure the instruction is accurate. These are only a few examples of her dedication to assure that we are delivering high-quality patient care. Anna structures her teaching to promote wellness rather than focusing on being sick.

Another unique characteristic of Anna is her ability to teach autonomy within our own situation. She starts every decision with what she says to think every time you walk into your patient's room, you must think what is the worst thing that can happen and how can I counteract this. What is within my power to prevent this disaster? Challenging the status quo is an exciting and essential component of healthcare. Anna frequently demonstrates the ability to ask questions, challenge others to get involved, and see with the latest EBP is available to solve or resolve questions or problems.

In essence, she seeks to promote learning and engagement. Her creative thinking has given many of these nurses opportunities to challenge themselves, push the limits and learn through difficult times. Anna is a team player; she is easy to talk to and promotes the mission and vision of Nemours. She inspires whomever she is working with to continuously develop themselves, which has a rippling effect throughout the institution. Joining the PICU team can be seen as challenging and intimidating at the very least. Anna jumped in with both feet, hit the ground running, and never really looked back. She has been here through really dark days and also when the sun is shining bright. Anna loved education so taking on the challenge of many new graduates or multiple experienced nurses at any given time was just one more way she helped her team and worked to improve the PICU. Anna is a born leader and continues to demonstrate all of the characteristics of someone who should be recognized for all that she does for our Nemours.
