During times of uncertainty and fear, Erin gave us a bolus of hope with kindness and empathy.
Compassion: Erin's care was genuine and her presence around our son provided an atmosphere of positivity, giving us much-needed confidence in the care that he was receiving. She made us feel that she was genuinely concerned about his well-being and progress while in the NICU and not that she was just doing her job or getting through her shift. During times of uncertainty and fear, she gave us a bolus of hope with kindness and empathy.
Trust: Erin's competency, care and empathy allowed us the ability to trust that he was receiving the best care possible. It was difficult for us to leave the NICU each night without our child, but during the times he was being cared for by Erin we were able to rest a little easier knowing that she was with him and giving him the compassion we would if we could be there with him ourselves.
Respect: Erin always listened to our concerns and addressed all of our questions without making us feel talked down to. The respect she showed us allowed us to feel comfortable advocating for our child and asking questions to understand his care better. Our mutual respect allowed us to communicate in a productive manner. While our son was under her care, she respected that while he was her patient, we were his parents and she valued our input.
Teamwork: Erin's efficient communication and professionalism displayed with the rest of the NICU staff led to us feeling like we had a cohesive team taking care of our son while in the NICU. She provided a thorough transition of care between staff members at shift change, which once again, gave us confidence in the care of our child.
Innovation: Erin assisted us and often initiated raising questions and ideas to the provider regarding our son's care and progress. She would often seek out additional information for some of the questions we asked if she felt that there was another source that could better assist us. Having a sick child is every parent’s worst nightmare. Our son’s journey through the NICU had a bright light and that was Erin. We hope she will be recognized for her extraordinary care that made an impact on our darkest days.
