As we entered the surgery room, Melissa came in and immediately began to offer reassurance to my friend. Melissa did this with her kind sweet words and calm demeanor. As my friend lay on the operating table I could see from a distance that Melissa was standing at end of the table and rubbing the forehead of my friend while reassuring her that all was and will continue to be well. Later on, my friend stated had it not been for that touch she may have had a panic attack. My friend was so nervous that I could see her shaking from a distance. I have never in my 51 years of living seen a medical provider offer such tenderness to a patient. If that is all I had to say it should be enough for her to be honored. However, it doesn't end there. I had decided to also offer my friend support during the procedure. Within minutes I had passed out. I awoke on the floor with Melissa holding my head and comforting me with words. The entire time Melissa continued to check up on me by asking if I was okay. At some point, she noticed I was not and as she walked over to me I passed out again. For the second time, I had awoken with Melissa comforting me. During this incident, that felt foreign and frightening to me, I remember thinking how impressed I was for what this angel was offering. Words cannot describe the gratitude I feel in my heart for what this woman offered both me and my friend.
