For over three months my mom had been experiencing extreme pain in her back. She was out of state and decided to come home when no one could figure out what was wrong with her. Once my mom came home, she went to the ED at Wentworth Douglass Hospital. The Emergency Doctor reached out to the Cancer Center and the Thoracic Center. My mom got an expedited appointment with the Thoracic Department. This is where we met Adrienne Hayes. She was prepared to meet my mom. She had already looked at her scan. It was noted that a mass was seen on her lung. Adrienne looked further and took notice of a mass growing on her spine. This was the pain that my stepmom had been experiencing for over three months. Adrienne immediately recognized the need to properly medicate my mom. There were other tests that needed to be done to address her situation. Together we came up with a plan to make this all possible. Most importantly she wanted my mom to feel comfortable and not suffer from any more pain. With Adrienne's help, we were able to complete all the necessary tests and start treatment for her cancer. Adrienne expedited everything. She reached out to other doctors and departments and promptly coordinated her care. She went well above anyone's expectations. Adrienne took the time to meet with me personally and asked if I had any questions and expressed her willingness to be there for me if I needed any support. Adrienne's kindness, compassion, and support are like none that I have ever seen. Just meeting with her gave our family the reassurance to know that my parents made the right decision to come home. Adrienne was our Angel leading us in the right direction. Our family is so grateful for her commitment and dedication to her patients and their families. Every family dealing with Cancer needs to have an "Adrienne" in their lives. For all these reasons I believe she is a true DAISY Nurse.
