We made it through and I know without a doubt that it would have been so much harder for everyone involved if Maliko had not been a part of his care.
I work weekends with Maliko and we recently took care of a patient who required a lot of personality, flexibility, and empathy with our interactions. I was assigned as the primary caregiver and Maliko fell right in, following my lead, and we were able to develop a very good rapport with the patient throughout the shift. The patient has diminished mental capacity and Maliko tried very hard to talk with him on his level, about things he likes to eat, watch, do, etc. We knew that his pending discharge (scheduled for near the end of the shift) was not going to be easy, based on reports we had received. We worked together to develop a plan to make that discharge the least amount traumatizing as possible and although it was very tough, we made it through and I know without a doubt that it would have been so much harder for everyone involved if Maliko had not been a part of his care. It was truly emotionally scarring for us but she was a rock and we helped each other through. I will always remember that day and I will always be grateful for Maliko. She is truly caring and I would want her to take care of my loved ones if they had to be in our hospital.
