Kate provides compassionate thoughtful care every shift, however, I was blown away today by her creativity, time, and dedication to the well-being of a patient. He was being discharged, has a terminal illness, and has underlying anxiety, which is worsened by the knowledge of his condition and the difficulties it brings. Kate took the time to create an "anxiety toolbox" for him to take home. She handmade a glitter sensory bottle and purchased sour candy (she had researched his favorite kind) with the idea being to shock the system out of a panic attack. Kate also provided education on relaxation techniques. She also made sure he had a visit from Music Therapy and Healing Touch before he left.
