Tyeisha really impressed me with her compassion and care, and I feel she made a positive impact during that visit.
Tyeisha Faison transferred from Unity Living Center to Edna Tina Wilson Living Center two years ago. Tyeisha was hired as a part-time evening nurse. A few months after her hire, nursing leadership noticed Tyeisha’s strong communication skills with staff, residents, and their families. Tyeisha not only listens to people when they speak, but she truly hears their voices. Tyeisha demonstrates Rochester Regional Health values with each encounter. Nursing leadership recognized that she was growing as a leader.

Due to staffing challenges with RNs, the Director of Nursing decided to grow Tyeisha as a supervisor at Edna Tina Wilson. Being a supervisor is a difficult role, which includes managing conflicts, resident acuity, problem-solving, and staffing/scheduling. Tyeisha’s first week as a supervisor had many challenges, including managing a family member who was ready to take their loved one home against medical advice. Tyeisha was able to sit with the family and listen to them and offered several suggestions for resolving their concerns. The family member decided to keep their loved one at ETW after Tyeisha spoke to them. The family member called the Director of Nursing the next day, complimenting Tyeisha’s calmness, soothing voice, and her immediate follow-up with their concerns.

Tyeisha has evolved into an amazing leader who is fair, who listens, follows up on concerns, and comes to work with a positive attitude. One of the hospice residents had some labored breathing and I notified her nurse. The nurse came in and was able to see that she had labored breathing with high blood pressure and fever. I knew she was on Hospice, so I stayed with her for a few moments for words of comfort and my, not so great, attempt at bedside prayer. Her daughter asked the “Our Father Prayer” to be recited to her because that brings her comfort.

As I was, attempting to pray from memory, Tyeisha came in and was able to help me. She was so compassionate and empathetic and was able to help me recite the Our Father prayer, which I knew her daughter would be so happy to know. Tyeisha really impressed me with her compassion and care, and I feel she made a positive impact during that visit.
