She became her doula, her midwife, and nurse extraordinaire, moving her in positions I had never seen before
My daughter delivered a healthy baby boy in January. We first met Kortney when she was our admission nurse. She just got us settled before going off shift, and E then began an induction of labor. Our little boy was not always tolerant of the labor process and she was on the road to a CS. I requested Kortney to be her nurse at the next change of shift. Immediately after coming on, Kortney came to E and began working with her. She told us “you don’t need a CS”, and explained what she was doing to help move the baby past cord compression and positioning her to assist with dilating. I just retired from OB nursing after 35 years on Mother Baby, but I have never met a nurse as skilled and as caring as Kortney. She became her doula, her midwife, and nurse extraordinaire, moving her in positions I had never seen before! And sure enough, the baby’s strip improved, labor progressed, and delivery was imminent. A doctor poked his head in the room, but Kortney told him "I’ll call you when I need you". And I truly appreciate a nurse in control of a situation! Kortney continued to work with E as she began pushing, encouraging her as if she was the first woman to ever do this. This was no wimpy delivery - she made her strong and able. Kortney changed her entire birth experience. She oxygenated my grandson because she cared enough to work so diligently at the bedside. She saved my daughter from a surgical recovery and simply changed everything to give her the best possible healthy birth experience. There are not enough words to cover the depth of gratitude we have for this extraordinary woman. She is literally an angel working in your midst! Thank you, Kortney!
