Flora Cabanayan has been a nurse for 30 years, and for the past eight years, has served as our Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse (WOCN). Flora is diligent and thorough in her work, which requires a lot of organization and prioritization. She provides extraordinary care to a variety of patients. Flora consults on patients with gunshot wounds, pressure injuries, chronic wounds as well as patients with ostomies. Flora is highly respected by her peers. She is a mentor, teacher, and advocate. She partners with the unit-based wound care champions, physicians, and nurses to ensure that we maintain compliance with assessment, documentation, prevention, and management of wounds. Highland Hospital’s Hospital Acquired Pressure Injury (HAPI) patient outcomes have been below the national benchmark for several years since Flora became our WOCN. This means the nurses are positively impacting the care outcomes of our patients. We are so fortunate to have Flora as a part of our team.
