From the moment that I became Adam's patient, he was professional, personable, knowledgeable, and with a fantastic bedside manner.
Last Friday I was a patient at NYU's ER. I was so impressed by the nurse who took care of me, Adam H. From the moment that I became his patient, he was professional, personable, knowledgeable, and with a fantastic bedside manner. He was everything that you would want in a nurse. I was not in the ER for something that was life-threatening that warranted needing his attention every 2 minutes. However, I never felt like I wasn't being checked on or that I had been forgotten. I never felt like I wasn't being appropriately updated. I never felt like my pain was not being assessed or being left to be out of control. I was particularly impressed that he treated my boyfriend with just as much respect as he treated me. Asking how he wanted him to be addressed, and then always calling him by name every time he returned to the bedside. After saying all of that, I would like to note that I am a nurse myself. I do not like to say to the treatment team that I am a nurse, because I often feel like it puts a bias on the overall situation. However, from the perspective of a nurse, I would also like to note Adam's excellent assessment skills. Textbook perfect, even with the basics of just listening to heart and lung sounds. When it was time for discharge not only did he go through the paperwork with me, but he ensured that I did teachback which is always so important. If you have any employee that deserves recognition from your nursing staff, it is absolutely him. We all have our biases, and as a floor nurse, we always joke around asking if the ER even looked at their patient before sending them up to us. If I knew that my patients were being sent up Adam, I would have confidence that they were being sent up having been cared for.
