Ray was compassionate, and kind towards me and my mother and showed that caring attitude in his responsiveness.
I live in Northern WI. My mother is 91 years old and suffers from advanced dementia. She lives in Monticello. In November my mother was brought to Monticello Hospital by ambulance to the ER. Upon hearing the news, my brother and I drove 4+ hours from our home to see her, arriving at 5pm. My mother spent many long hours in the ER that day being evaluated for what ultimately was found to be pneumonia. When we arrive at the ER exhausted and hungry, we were told that only one of us could be with my mother in the hospital due to Covid rules. At the time we didn’t know what was wrong with our mother – only that she was unresponsive and unable to talk. We were worried and scared. The wait in the ER was agonizing and felt never-ending. The RN, Ray, was the one bright spot of the day. He was compassionate, and kind towards me and my mother and showed that caring attitude in his responsiveness to my request for comfort measures for my mother. When I asked for an extra blanket, he brought a heated one. When I told him that my mother hadn’t eaten or drank anything all day, he brought water and refreshment. He had no idea what I had gone through or how exhausted I felt but his kindness towards me will always be remembered. It is the little things that make all the difference… especially in times like these.
