Immediately post-partum (while I was still in labor and delivery) my nurse was Rowan. I was in a stupid amount of pain to the point that it was hard for me to articulate words. Even though Rowan had quite a busy shift (I could tell), she paged my doctor, saw that the doctor ordered Tylenol which wouldn’t do much, gave me the Tylenol, and then immediately paged pain management who prescribed oxy. She advocated for me when I was at my most vulnerable and painful and was unable to articulate my own needs. I also remember not being able to hold my baby because I was hurting so much and my husband had religious beliefs that stopped him from holding the baby (unless in an emergency) so she took the baby from my husband and soothed the baby because he was crying a lot. Rowan is an amazing person who is empathetic and brilliant and kind. She was my advocate literally sent from the heavens. She saw how traumatic the birth was for me and talked me through a bit of it and told me that therapy would help. I don’t have words to describe how amazing she is. I can literally gush for hours. Rowan, if you’re reading this, thank you so so so much.
