While caring for a patient who had been hospitalized in critical care for 22 days, Melinda gave him and his family hope and joy by taking him outside on the rooftop. She honored his human spirit by showing the patient and his family that she cares, not only for his physical needs but also for his emotional and mental needs as well. Melinda has been an incredible patient advocate and I would not hesitate to have her care for my family. An act of kindness is all it takes to inspire us all, to remind us why we are nurses, and why we do what we do.
