She had vision and was an advocate for K as well as providing family comfort by talking to the house officer about the unique, unprecedented family situations, and standing back to let us make imminent decisions.
I was touched and amazed by the level of expertise, knowledge, and maturity that Holley possessed. Given that her daily workloads were exponential she patiently and kindly took time to provide updates accurately and clearly regarding the patient, K’s, status. Never once did she give the impression that K wasn’t a priority. Holley strived to attain the utmost critical care for K. While K was still conscious Holley calmed her fears. She reported changes to our family and communicated with the doctors and other medical staff in a timely fashion while providing critical care and emotional strength through our struggles. Holley was grace under fire. Holley provided thoughtful insight during an exceedingly challenging time. K’s oldest brother had unexpectedly passed away just a few days after K was hospitalized so it was an exceedingly difficult time. The family struggled with deciding to tell K in her final days on earth about her brother, yet not wanting to make things worse for her emotionally or let her go. Holley would listen to our concerns and without bias provided guidance for our independent contemplation. She had vision and was an advocate for K as well as providing family comfort by talking to the house officer about the unique, unprecedented family situations, and standing back to let us make imminent decisions. Holley had the foresight to recognize when K had moments of suffering, yet an advance directive was not in place. Medical staff hands were tied. What a challenge it must have been! However, once the family established permission, soldiering through Holley took expertly instantaneous action with comfort care protocol. She helped ease all our pains and comforted our fears. I don’t know how Holley accomplished giving K compassionate care while still covering necessary attendance to her other critical patients. She is a superstar extraordinaire! I witnessed a level of respect from her other colleagues. She is an outstanding role model. We are so thankful for a person of Holley’s caliber to undertake the very special calling of the nursing vocation. She is a genuine individual and a credit to Carle and to the profession. In my opinion, Holley deserves special recognition as an outstanding nurse who goes beyond her call of duty. She is destined for greater things, and it is my hope that Carle treasures her skills as much as we did. I have an overwhelming sense of gratitude and feel extremely blessed to have had her as K's nurse and blessed to have met her.
