Even though Tiffany was not assigned to him, she helped her co-worker by going in and calming him down.
We recently had a patient that came to our floor escorted by security. He had been violent and continued the same behavior when he got to the floor. We learned that the patient suffered from mental disorders. He was on our floor for a few weeks, with continued violent behavior towards our staff. He refused to bathe and became physically violent with the staff when we tried to clean him up. After a while, Tiffany was made aware of the patient and his behavior towards staff. She went in as he stood by the door and said "Will it be all right if I help you clean up a bit?” He looked straight into her eyes and said, “Yes”. She bathed him and put clean clothes on him. He also allowed her to make his bed. She then asked, "Would you like a snack while you're sitting up?" He agreed and informed her of his favorite snack.
Even though Tiffany was not assigned to him, she helped her co-worker by going in and calming him down. He always listened when she asked him to remain in his room. She had a unique way of helping him understand that we were all here to take care of him. Her empathy and patience are shining examples of how extraordinary she is. There are certainly many other instances where she has gone above and beyond for our patients, (Too many to mention!). Her work stands out as one that we all will remember. She is the epitome of what every nurse should strive to be.
