When our daughter had to come back to the hospital the day after we were discharged from delivery, we ended up in NICU with Laura. All the team members were amazing, but Laura went above and beyond to comfort, care, and sympathize with us. She made sure all of our concerns as new parents were addressed. She offered and helped me figure out my breast pump, made sure we were comfortable spending time with our baby, shared her own stories, and made the room a no-judgment zone where we could ask questions and learn how to best care for our baby here and at home. She made me feel safe talking about my depression and struggles during pregnancy and talked with me about support systems. She helped me and my husband both feel more confident as parents just by being present, warm, genuine, and compassionate. She never minded repeating or clarifying information. She affirmed our choices and celebrated our wins and joys as enthusiastically as she addressed concerns. I’ve never felt so relaxed in a hospital as I did when Laura entered the room.
