Today, we honor Dr. Carrie McDermott, Corporate Director of Nursing Professional Practice with the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Carrie’s accolades and accomplishments have enriched our team for years. Her leadership style models flexibility and compassion. This compassion puts learners and students first. Carrie’s team has recently been awarded a multi-million dollar gift from the Woodruff Fund. Because of her diligence and hard work, she was able to use data to help get this gift over the finish line when the donors frequently came back to our leader, Sharon Pappas with questions seeking more details. This boost to our Nurse Residency Program could not come at a better time while we take much-needed steps to increase our numbers of residents to help rebuild our workforce. Carrie is respected by many colleagues and is a strong resource for all things related to professional practice and professional development. At Emory’s graduation this year, Carrie was also given an award (having been nominated by her students) for her reshaping of our InEmory program and even more importantly, for building trust, meaningful connections, and strong mentoring relationships with her students.
