We are so proud and excited to nominate Jingoo for the DAISY Nurse Award. Ever since Jingoo joined 4W as a new grad nurse, he has proven time and again to be an exceptional, committed team player loved by all his colleagues and patients. You know it's going to be a good day when Jingoo's working the same shift as you. He is the one who makes your day a little better with a warm greeting and a cup of coffee and makes coming to work worthwhile. If you're the charge nurse for the day and have to go off the floor to do peritoneal dialysis (PD), Jingoo has already offered to take care of your patients. You know they are more than in good hands, even the one you're a bit worried about. Because when you return, he has already administered meds as appropriate and followed up on the patient's unstable vital signs multiple times. If you're one of his colleagues, you know that he always has your back: you don't have to worry about falling behind when you get busy or find yourself in the middle of a code because he'll be the one to check in on your other patients and help transfer your crashing patient to the ICU. Jingoo (literally) steps out of his way to help the unit and the needs of others--even when he is not at work. When the unit was short-staffed on his day off one day before his 15-hour flight, he willingly picked up extra hours to help. Jingoo builds strong connections with his patients, their families, and his colleagues that are hard to match. He's adored by his patients who have returned after being discharged to drop off thank you cards to express their appreciation. Jingoo exemplifies care and compassion in a way that memorably impacts his patients and shapes the environment around him. When he unexpectedly experienced his first Code Blue on his own patient, his colleagues showered him with encouragement and support in the form of cake, cards, and check-ins. Having the support of his team meant so much to him that when he was offered an ICU position the next day at a nearby hospital with a generous sign-on bonus, he passed. In a time when the exodus of staff nurses to travel nursing has deflated unit morale, Jingoo foregoing the lure of money and travel is a heartwarming testament to not only our amazing 4W team and the sense of camaraderie they have built together but also to his dedication. We are grateful that Jingoo continues to be a part of our team as he grows every day as a nurse and leader. Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital is certainly a better place by having him.
