I was blown away by her compassion to reach out to me when she didn't have to.
My dad passed away from COVID-19. He was still in the isolation period when he made the difficult decision to be placed on a ventilator. He had spent weeks alone, only communicating with us through text messages and briefly waving to me through the window. Getting the phone call from Erin the day my dad was deciding to be intubated was incredibly difficult. Although I had a feeling the time was coming, I also knew what it meant and that there was a good chance he wouldn't come off of the ventilator. Erin knew I work on campus and asked if I wanted to come to the ICU to speak with the intensivist while he was with my dad. I was blown away by her compassion to reach out to me when she didn't have to. When I got to the ICU, Erin said she would bring my dad as close as she could so I could see him. I will never be able to explain how much that meant to my dad and to me.
