Jason was nurturing, caring, kind, and gentle.
Jason Chen is a resident nurse on 5TS ICU. He was floated to ARICU one night shift, and this email was from the patient he took care of: This email is long overdue, but I wanted to reach out to you to give recognition to a nurse in your unit, Jason Chen, and share my experience with you. One evening I was rushed to 6G-ARICU due to respiratory failure, where I was intubated and was put on a ventilator for life support. And as shifts changed, Jason became my nurse for the night. Jason was nurturing, caring, kind, and gentle. It felt like he was taking care of me as if I were his own family member. He paid attention to the little details and did things without me having to ask him, and that is what made the biggest difference. As I came in and out of consciousness throughout the night, Jason went above and beyond, and the care he provided that night is what helped bring me back to life the very next morning. Even the doctors were surprised to find me fully conscious and communicating (through writing) by the next morning. Although I only remember bits and pieces of the night, they are powerful memories and will be staying with me for a very long time. Jason is a wholehearted soul, and I am blessed to have met him.
