Julie has gone above and beyond in her care of a particularly challenging and vulnerable patient. Julie has treated this patient with such compassion and with a non-judgmental approach that she has demonstrated what it means to treat the whole person. Not only has Julie been an amazing source of emotional support for this individual but she went out of her own way to bring this patient clothing, PJs, and all sorts of recreational activities in preparation for a prolonged hospital stay. This particular patient expressed to this writer her deep gratitude. She also shared with me her general lack of trust in healthcare providers due to previous negative experiences. Julie's deeply caring approach has literally changed this patient's perception of health care and health care providers. Nurses really do heal but Julie's work makes me proud to work with her and stand in her company. Julie deserves to be recognized for the OUTSTANDING care she has provided. More than medicine, love heals and Julie's compassion, kindness, and care have helped to heal this patient. Julie is an inspiration to me what a beautiful example she is of what nurses can do to truly promote change.
