I have had the pleasure of teaching and observing Holly in the classroom, clinical, and simulated learning settings. During our last intensive day, the standardized patient she evaluated and treated went out of their way to tell me how excellent their interaction with Holly was. She told me, "Holly is one of those special students, I know she is going to do great. She diagnosed my condition properly but also responded to my reactions and emotions with empathy and poise. I felt seen and heard by Holly." I know this to be true as I have witnessed this in her clinical experiences in the ICU and in the classroom. She is clinically strong and competent, but also truly values the impact of the human connection and relationships. Holly is an intelligent and compassionate provider. It is clearly evident that Holly enjoys caring for her patients and routinely demonstrates compassion by taking time to truly listen to patients and their families. She is an advocate for her critically ill patients. It has been a pleasure over the last semester to precept her and watch her transition from the nurse to the nurse practitioner role. She will make an excellent nurse practitioner. Critical care is a very challenging field and Holly is a bright light within it. I look forward to seeing her continue to excel in her new role as nurse practitioner.
