We could even “hear” her smile over speaker phone when she called with what seemed like weekly INR test results…usually depressing news about an erratic number; seemingly impossible to regulate. Knowledge, understanding, patience, proactive but all-important stellar communication, including active listening skills plus the foresight to anticipate needs. Regardless of the time of day or my husband’s frustration as well as complaints of being “poked” on a regular basis, she calmly explained the reasons (again and again) for the necessity of the procedure. However, Amber’s excellence in providing care shined when my husband became a viable candidate for the Watchman. Her determination to make his surgery a reality never was compensated as she closely watched his numbers while taking the initiative to communicate with the physician’s surgical coordinator to guarantee she was anticipating any challenges that might prevent this medical success. Amber’s efforts were recognized as my husband is a health recipient, yet she continues to boost his confidence assuring him the “pokes” are almost over. We will miss her smiling, weekly phone calls but know she will always be available with any concerns. Amber deserves the DAISY Award for being a spark of brightness and freshness to what often can be a dismal environment—the medical field needs more flowers like Amber.
