Theresa has a vested interest in "J" as a person as well as a patient.
My family and I would like to nominate Theresa. Theresa works in the Intensive Care Unit at Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. On Monday, my son, "J," was admitted to the ICU from his previous room at Abbott Hospital and was quickly put on a ventilator for Covid Pneumonia. "J" is only forty-one years old. He is a loving husband, father of two young children, and a high school teacher. One of the nurses that "J" has had since he has been in ICU is Theresa. Theresa has been an amazing nurse. She has a calming, gentle presence that has helped tremendously in caring for "J" and for helping me (his mother), his wife, and other family members navigate this difficult journey. She is very loving and reassuring to us, always ready and willing to answer all of the many questions we come with each day - never making us feel like the questions we are asking are bothersome or ridiculous. She calmly answers the difficult questions, always in a way that gives us confidence that "J" is being cared for in the best possible way. Theresa has a vested interest in "J" as a person as well as a patient. Theresa has gotten to know about "J," his family, and his life. She has used this knowledge to know how to talk with "J" and be an encouragement to him. She talks to "J" as if they are in another setting, other than a hospital, and uses just enough humor to lighten the mood in what can otherwise be a very glum atmosphere. We can tell that Theresa is well respected by the doctors and carries a level of expertise about her that leaves no room for doubt in her abilities or the abilities of this hospital. We marvel at her knowledge as she carefully cares for "J's" total being - not just his pneumonia symptoms. Theresa seems to anticipate problems so that they can be avoided. Each morning, as we arrive at the hospital, we look with anticipation for Theresa and are always happy to know when she is there to care for "J." We believe that Theresa goes way above and beyond in her role as an ICU Nurse, and would love to see her presented with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. We know that she is EXTRAORD INARY and feel she is more than deserving of his award.
