Laura brought to our table a few suggestions we were able to implement toward our mission “of providing world-class healthcare – every time, every touch – to each person”.
Laura Powers, RN has been an employee at IAH for over two years. Throughout this time, I had the privilege of working side by side with her at Cardiopulmonary Rehab. Laura consistently demonstrates prolific knowledge, professionalism, and an excellent work ethic. Laura is always punctual and is capable of multi-tasks, even on a very specific schedule/workload. Laura can easily adapt to whatever work is given to her. She may provide high-quality healthcare to the Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 Cardiopulmonary patients in our company we have the privilege to serve.

She proved to be a hardworking and responsible person who was well-liked by patients and her peers for her positive attitude daily. Every holiday Laura decorates the Cardiopulmonary department to make her peers' and patients' holiday season more enjoyable. Today Laura decorated CR gym and gave fresh spring flowers to each co-worker of our Cardiopulmonary team for the St. Patrick holiday. It was like sunshine on this rainy day for everyone.

Laura is an intelligent and motivated individual. She is looking for innovation to provide the best quality of care. A few weeks ago, Laura and I were visiting Fairfax Cardiac Rehab for observation to improve our patient care and productivity. Laura brought to our table a few suggestions we were able to implement toward our mission “of providing world-class healthcare – every time, every touch – to each person”. One of them is that the patients may get Cardiopulmonary Rehab T-Shirts at the initial interview and use them for monitor during activities (prior the patients received T-Shirt at graduation and required additional time and effort to tighten pouches around their neck to keep monitors during rehab sessions). We implemented it in our department and the patients liked this idea because it saved a few additional minutes to exercise and eliminated difficulty with tight pouches.

Attention to those small details made patients happier and accelerated recovery progress. Another suggestion was to initiate ITP documentation with patient education prior to the due date to be compliant with MD review in a timely manner. This procedure met the physician’s need and the team agreed to use this approach to achieve results at the highest level of performance in our field.

Finally, she shared the ability to eliminate double documentation by integrating ScottCare Telemetry with Epic Documentation, as Fairfax Cardiac Rehab used it during our observation. At this time, it was successfully implemented in our department with the assistance of our team members. We can fill out ScottCare Telemetry completely and send it to HIS. It helps our department to provide more time to the patients with increased quality of care by decreasing documentation time.

Laura is knowledgeable and energetic. She enjoyed helping her fellow workers when needed and often offered to train her new co-workers in order to help with their professional development. I for one had the opportunity to benefit from her teachings, which she always offered with a smile. Recently, Laura scheduled Phase 1 orientation for new hired Cardiopulmonary Rehab Exercise Physiologist. Laura is Compassionate and Caring not only for her patients but also for peers who are in the same working environment. She is helpful in any situation. There are numerous thank you cards from her patients received during graduation sessions. I am sure Laura is a valuable asset to our company.
