When my dad was admitted, he walked himself in. Things quickly changed, and he was rushed to the ICU. After almost losing him, he started doing better and was transferred to the IMC. I am a nurse, and as any nurse can tell you, it is the hardest to trust another to treat your loved one as well as you would. That is exactly what Jennifer and countless other nurses on both units did for my dad and I. Jennifer, in particular, went above and beyond. She treated my dad as her own. She constantly kept me updated and stayed on the phone with me as I asked for advice and strength. She sat at the window as I cried, seeing my dad struggling on the BiPAP, and relayed the conversation, as hearing him over the machine on the phone wasn't an option. She told me it was going to be OK, and she gave me the hope to believe so. My father had nothing but wonderful things to say as well. I knew when she was there that he would never feel alone. I can't thank everyone enough, and I want Jennifer to know that in this pandemic, in all the losses we see as nurses, you reminded me why I became a nurse; to be that person for a patient or family who needs compassion and understanding at that moment and rising above any standard of care I can imagine. You are amazing, you make a difference, and I will forever be grateful for everything you did. I will continue to strive to be the type of nurse you are; you are truly an inspiration.
