He calmed the patient and jumped into action by connecting to the Mental Health Hotline and made a face-to-face appointment the next day. When the patient arrived, Otto ensured she was taken care of. It was discovered that the patient had a rapidly growing painful lump in her breast that was cancerous which was not diagnosed prior to this appointment. Otto demonstrated not only the ideal principles of a caring and empathetic Registered Nurse, but his genuine compassion to improve the quality of others’ lives was displayed by following through and ensuring the patient was placed in good hands at her most vulnerable time.
