She always puts herself in the position of the patient and how they must feel.
Trish goes above and beyond every day, and she has called insurances about benefits, arranged transportation to the clinic or surgery for patients, and expedited authorizations for patients' surgery when we have a team at Central Authorizations that was not able to get an authorization. She stays over late and works additional hours at home. She actively works clinic five days a week and still gets all her patient messages in the In-Basket addressed and closed or at least started. She often logs onto Epic from home and calls patients after she has worked a 10-hour day already. She is Canadian and has the border to worry about or take up more time from her commute. Last week it was 3 hours to get home from the tunnel when the bridge was blockaded. She is an exceptional colleague, team member, confidant, caregiver, patient advocate, leader, and friend, but most of all, she is an exceptional nurse who gives unselfishly to all her patients and team members. One particular patient was having difficulty getting an authorization for the removal of her external fixator that was applied to stabilize her fracture to heal, which involved coordination between the SNAF office, Central Authorization, Plastics surgeon, and Ortho Trauma surgeon. She does this on a daily basis or whenever necessary for Trauma patients to get what they need. She always puts herself in the position of the patient and how they must feel. With Trish, we don't have to worry about who comes first. It is always the patient. We would have to have Crisis Support if she ever left Ortho or retired. She is invaluable, trusted, respected, and beloved more than any other nurse I have worked with in my 38 years of nursing. She deserves a DAISY Award.
