The way the patient responded to Crystal was astounding.
Crystal to me exemplifies the spirit of nursing. She is always there to shine some brightness on a person's day, pick individuals up when they are down, be a team player, and more. On this particular day, Crystal admitted a patient that required a tremendous amount of attention, care, and patience when it came to her treatment. This patient was in an extreme amount of pain and the entire unit knew it. There were many orders, tests, and more that were a part of this patient's care plan. I watched Crystal go in and out of this patient's room, back and forth constantly when more orders were placed, when the call light was pressed, when you could hear the patient crying, and never did her demeanor change.
I had to go into the room and draw labs for testing on the patient after a few failed attempts. Crystal assisted me into the room. The way the patient responded to Crystal was astounding. The patient would sometimes get flustered throughout the blood collection process but Crystal's calm approach and soothing care were more than just therapeutic, they were the definition of nursing at its finest! Watching Crystal treat this patient with the utmost respect and dignity while forming that bond of trust and love made me understand more of why I chose to become a nurse myself! Her caring and positive attitude are what any nurse should strive to have and I truly thank her for that. She was just doing what she loves to do (taking care of others) but it showed me so much more! She showed me the kind of nurse I want to be. A nurse that cares from their heart, advocates for the betterment of their patients, and works with compassion. We have many wonderful nurses here at Woman's hospital but Crystal truly is an extraordinary nurse!
