Sandy is empathetic, attentive, and understanding, and expresses her gratitude in so many ways to ALL of her staff.
Sandy has an unflappable presence and she is able to support her staff in whatever clinical situations they encounter. Our emergency rooms have become the safety net of our community and we see all that life has to offer. Most days her department provides excellent clinical care and occasionally they meet patients and their families in the most heartbreaking circumstances. Sandy has the unique ability to meet her staff where they are and she can support them during the successful times as well as those times that aren’t. She encourages her staff to always focus on what they “can” do for their patients and her patient experience scores are top-notch.
Sandy was frequently mentioned in our recent Patient Safety Surveys that the staff completed, she has had multiple Excellence in Action cards sent to her, one just yesterday from a staff member stating that “Sandy is an amazing manager! She is empathetic, attentive, and understanding, and expresses her gratitude in so many ways to ALL of her staff. She is uncommonly kind and words cannot describe how grateful the entire department is to have her. Thank you Sandy for everything you do for us.”
Recently, Sandy assisted a patient who left her doctor’s office in the Hudgins building, and on her way out of the parking lot, her oxygen tank went empty. Her daughter came in to ask for an oxygen tank to get home. Sandy assisted the patient and her daughter with helping them to get a tank from their vendor while the patient waited connected to an in-house supply. This went above and beyond and they were forever grateful. Like this patient, most people don’t normally plan to visit an emergency room but when they come to visit this one, they always leave knowing they were cared for by an extraordinary team, and that is Team Sandy!
