Jane is recognized for her collaborative behaviors, positive attitude, and for her ability to make those who are around her feel as though she is in complete control (even when she feels she is not).
Jane came to MSSN as a new graduate RN. She accelerated in her orientation and she worked for a year and a half on the night shift. On nights she gained her skills and competencies to transition to independent practice as an RN on the float team being proficient to work in a wide variety of practice settings and with diverse patient populations. She worked through the fast-paced, rapidly changing environment we experienced during the first wave of covid with passion and commitment to advocate for the unfamiliar patient population, always focused on quality and safety for her patients.
Even as a new RN she was frequently taking charge of situations as we were navigating the unknown. She is currently on the day shift and she has thrived with the faster pace and learning opportunities a busy day schedule provides. She has completed the critical care experience and is competent to assist patients in the critical care setting.
Jane is flexible and adaptable in her patient-centered approach to care. She recently had three very challenging days on one of our telemetry units where patient acuity was high and needs were great. Overall feedback on her performance from the unit leadership, recognizing her days were very challenged, was that she role-modeled professionalism, teamwork, and took all the challenges as opportunities to teach her orientee the real world of nursing at MSSN so expectations were realistic once off of orientation. She supports, guides, and mentors her capstone students and new grad orientees to our team.
When we talk to Jane about her orientation she says she was supported and guided by another member of our team as a new grad on nights and that relationship helped her to be the nurse she is today; she likes to continue this tradition on our team as she orients new hires. As a trained preceptor she takes her role seriously putting great thought into teaching opportunities and experiences. Jane conducted a presentation at our float meeting on diabetic management and seeks out other opportunities to learn and teach. Jane is recognized for her collaborative behaviors, positive attitude, and for her ability to make those who are around her feel as though she is in complete control (even when she feels she is not). She delegates appropriately building trust with the ancillary staff on all of the units she assigned ensuring good teamwork in patient care, holding them accountable and role modeling her passion for nursing and her dedication to excellence in patient care.
When I am rounding the PCTs frequently compliment me on Jane being a great nurse and how much they love working with her. Jane is frequently recognized by patients and unit staff alike for her patient-centered holistic approach to care where she advocates for the best possible patient experience, people remember Jane; she touches their hearts with her caring and empathy. During Covid, she reached out to a community member who made ceramic angels and placed an order for every RN and LPN on our team. This was very special and so appreciated by our team and it was thanks to Jane. I am not sure she realizes how much everyone appreciated this token of thanks for caring. Jane is the kind of nurse we want to clone here at MSSN. We look forward to her continued professional growth. Jane is CAP 3 RN and is studying for her MS certification. She exemplifies the attributes of a DAISY Nurse and we are so proud to have her as a member of our team.
