Our newborn daughter was in the CVIVU for her only 5 weeks of life. We met Kristina on day 3 and from then on, our journey changed. Kristina cared for our daughter in such a way that gave us so much comfort in such an awful time. She always made sure she looked as "human" as possible while on ECMO life support. She talked to her, loved on her, did her hair, and picked out leg warmers, socks, and mittens to ensure A was comfortable. She encouraged my husband and me to learn all about our daughter's stats, the machine, and what everything meant so we wouldn't be constantly anxious. She updated us frequently on nights we needed to be away from the hospital. She truly felt like a family member in the way her care showed through for our baby girl. We looked forward to every night that she was on the floor because we knew A was in the best care with her. While our daughter's story did not end in the way we'd hoped, we have the positive memories and experiences from those 5 weeks because of Kristina. She has found her true calling as a CVICU nurse and I know any patient or family that she works with is and will be truly blessed by her presence.
