Nothing was off-limits when it came to making that connection, building that trust, and doing what it takes to make sure her patients knew their nurse was also their friend--even if it meant losing at a game of Battle Ship to a 12-year-old, or getting on the floor to help a 3-year-old put together his lego helicopter.
I feel my nominee exemplifies the characteristics of a DAISY Award winner because she exceeds expectations of what is asked of her when caring for her patients by delivering thoughtful, compassionate, and quality care.

Danielle always has a positive attitude and adapts to situations as they unfold, never allowing them to negatively affect the care she gives her patients. There was an instance right after we received report in the morning where one of our patients was immediately sent for emergency scans. Without hesitation, Danielle immediately started preparing our patient for transport and coordinating with the multiple disciplinary team members needed for a safe transfer due to the patient's higher acuity level. She did it all the while keeping a smile on her face, remaining a calm presence, and supporting the patient and their mom as they navigated through a whirlwind of emotions.

Throughout my time with her we were always on the go, continually working to make sure all patients and their families were taken care of and happy. Her ability to connect with her patients from all walks of life and backgrounds is unparalleled and was evident in the trust the families placed in her, as well as the smiles the kids give Danielle when they saw her coming into the room.

Danielle provided me with every opportunity that was presented to allow me to practice and attempt new skills, take on more responsibility, and explained anything I had questions about, in detail. She demonstrated what the nursing profession is all about and showed that she doesn't stop caring or thinking about her patients, even if they are transferred off her unit and are no longer under her care. She would still make time to check-in and see how they are. I feel very privileged to have met her and had the opportunity to learn under her during my capstone because I don't feel you are met with the patience and commitment to learning that Danielle exhibits in her nursing practice. This is especially exemplified by her transition into her new role in Nursing Professional Development where she will continue to engage, motivate, coach, mentor, and advocate for the growth of nurses while collaborating with teams and their leaders to do so.
