Dana had a patient in same-day surgery that brought their wife with a pre-arranged overnight stay scheduled at the Hoptel. After the patient was brought back for surgery, the wife was informed she could not stay at the Hoptel without the patient present, and she unexpectedly had no place to stay. The wife was very dependent on her spouse for making arrangements for her and now he was unable to do so as a surgical patient. Dana took it upon herself after she left work to stop by a local motel and inquire about veteran rates and room availability for the patient’s wife to stay while he was admitted to the hospital. After her tour of duty and after leaving the hospital, Dana was still calling into same-day surgery to help arrange a place to stay for this patient’s wife. Dana was very caring and very devoted to helping relieve the family member's stress during this difficult time when the original VA planned care unexpectedly fell through. Dana exemplified dedication and diligence to help the veteran and his family.
