As the medical staff relied on various tests to say that my daughter was fine Dawn very professionally advocated for the unanticipated and yet obvious conclusion that my daughter was declining rapidly.
It has become almost a cliche to call nurses "heroes'. Dawn went beyond that important title to "Life Saver". My daughter had emergency brain surgery after being bucked off a horse. She seemed to be recovering well for the first few days. But she began to decline - losing abilities overnight. I had an extremely frustrating night trying to get the doctors' attention to her worsening condition. With the new day came Dawn - and she worked to turn the situation around. As the medical staff relied on various tests to say that my daughter was fine Dawn very professionally advocated for the unanticipated and yet obvious conclusion that my daughter was declining rapidly. I was not privy to how she changed the doctors' minds. But given hospital hierarchies, I imagine she had to courageously stand up to many "higher-ups" and fight for my daughter. By the time the staff decided to do a second emergency surgery my daughter was basically comatose. She couldn't hear, speak, or move voluntarily. I applaud the surgeons who saved my daughter's life. But I know that Dawn is also the reason she is still alive. Dawn is our Life Saver.
