Just when things were tumbling on us, you came through like a champion. You were like an angel in our life...
Our honoree today received a letter of gratitude from a patient. Her Department Leadership nominated this special patient story for the DAISY Award. “Thank you for your kind words and everything you have done for me throughout my difficult journey at MCI. You have made everything that much easier. Just when things were tumbling on us, you came through like a champion. You were like an angel in our life and probably in many other cancer patients at MCI. Keep up the good work. People there like me need you. Please take care of yourself and we will always remember you in our prayers. May God bless you in your life journey and provide you with the strength to continue comforting all the desperate and confused cancer patients at MCI and in the world.”

Patient’s letter to Honoree. The DAISY Story: “This male breast cancer patient is a very intelligent, process-driven individual. When he first started at MCI, he experienced some huge barriers to care. His mammograms were cancelled because staff believed they were a scheduling error. Staff repeatedly approached his wife when he came in for care as if she were the patient. He was also disappointed in the lack of local resources for male breast cancer patients. All in all, it was a very alienating experience and he was ready to leave MCI. His wife shared her concerns with me and we quickly connected him with one of our most seasoned nurses. Nayla convinced him to stay with MCI, helped organize and coordinate his care, obtained national breast cancer support for men and provided the ongoing, personalized support his care had been missing until then. Recently, he completed treatment with us and wrote Nayla this beautiful note in recognition of her efforts. Sharing this great example of Navigation, service recovery and patient support in action.” Morgan Nestingen, Director of Nursing Services, Navigation Department, MCI.
