Chuck came into work, on his day off, to bring dessert and flowers for the patient for their anniversary.
Chuck is one of the most empathetic nurses I have ever met. He will advocate for his patients like no other. There was a spinal cord injury patient who was a complete injury, and just as COVID regulations began, the patient's wife had to leave. In a few days, it would have been their wedding anniversary. Chuck came into work, on his day off, to bring dessert and flowers for the patient for their anniversary.
For another patient whose primary language is not English (and he's not from the US), Chuck bought Spanish sweets and drinks for the patient, on his off days, to provide some cultural familiarity to this patient.
When a patient who was not his coded, Chuck comforted the family member and stayed by her side even though it was not his patient nor his job. There are so many more events like that when Chuck shows up and truly goes above and beyond for all of the patients. He makes sure that his teammates are always doing okay, whether they are an RN, PCT, or unit secretary, every single shift. He helps with med passes, turns, wound care, skin assessments, and more for those who need it, even when they're not his patient. Thank you for being an extraordinary nurse!
