Susan has that compassion that made the ultimate difference in a patient, and patient family's life, that I will never forget.
Two days ago I lost my mother at 93 years old. She was able to pass peacefully because of a nurse’s compassion and follow-up. Mid-week my Mother’s suffering increased 10 fold. It was obvious that we needed the help of Hospice to provide medication to allow my mother to rest comfortably. The home care nurse assigned contacted the doctor for the needed referral. The following day, Hospice had not received the needed referral and the concern was, due to the long holiday weekend, Hospice would not be able to help. I then contacted the doctor's office and spoke with Susan. She did a follow-up and assured me it had been sent, but to be safe, requested a second send of the referral. That action alone allowed for my mother to be put under hospice care on Friday, instead of what would likely have been the following Tuesday. Hospice was able to intervene Friday and give my mother the medications to allow her to rest and eventually pass in peace at her home. I can not imagine the suffering she would have undergone without this action. This is by far not the first time Susan has helped me, or a family member, either in the Sherburne or Norwich locations. Each time she has made the difference, but this time, she changed the world for my mother and family. It is unfortunate I have never taken the time to say thank you but this time, I need to do this, as my mother would say thank you if she could. Throughout the past few months, many doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals have interacted with my mother. It has been a mix of positive and negative experiences. Susan has that compassion that made the ultimate difference in a patient, and patient family's life, that I will never forget. She cares and she acts. I could not ask for anything more. Thank you Susan for enabling my mother to rest and pass in peace.
