She, of course, had the clinical skills that are taught in school, but she practiced with an empathy that cannot be taught.
There are not enough words to describe how amazing Melanie is as a nurse. When my Uncle was admitted to the hospital, we had no idea how quickly he would deteriorate. He was admitted on a Friday and passed away the following Wednesday. Melanie was his nurse throughout that entire weekend. Being a nurse myself, I can speak to the amazing care and compassion that she provided. As my Uncle's power of attorney, the decision to not escalate care was left in my hands as my Uncle was no longer able to communicate. Melanie was there to offer support. She not only provided and cared for my Uncle but was also there to support my family and me. She was sure to pull me aside and make sure that I was comfortable with the plan of care and to ensure that I did not need anything. She showed a great deal of compassion and caring towards my Uncle, who she treated with great respect. She, of course, had the clinical skills that are taught in school, but she practiced with an empathy that cannot be taught. Melanie was the nurse who was there for my Uncle's last day. When I saw her walk into the room, I immediately felt a sense of relief and began to cry. Just knowing that my Uncle's transition was going to be in such good hands made me feel at ease. Melanie gave me the space needed to spend time with my Uncle but also ensured that I was taken care of. She is an exceptional nurse and deserves to be recognized for all that she does. As a nurse, I know that skills are one thing, but the feeling that Melanie was able to provide to my family and me during such a difficult time is what really makes her stand out.
