He cared for her during the entire sedation and recovery period, even though it meant staying 2 extra hours.
As everyone who works in healthcare knows, we are very short-staffed. We had a 4-year-old patient come into our Emergency Room tonight, transferred for a very severe ear injury from a dog attack. We did not have enough staff to safely monitor her in the ER for a deep bedside sedation, so she was going to have to wait until the morning to have her injury cleaned, repaired, and dressed in the OR. It was the end of Chris's shift, and he decided to stay 2 extra hours past his scheduled shift so that this sweet patient could have her injury repaired. He cared for her during the entire sedation and recovery period, even though it meant staying 2 extra hours. He went above and beyond his required responsibilities in order to provide this child with the best possible care.
