I would like to nominate Shukairo for the student DAISY Award. I taught her in semester 3, mental health course. She has a background as a social worker and was able to lend her experience and expertise to the course. Never as boastful, but as someone who wanted to help others understand. I, too, learned from her examples and context in the discussion posts and lecture. She is an excellent communicator. She emailed me if there was a question or concern. For example, she wrote, “I think I’ve been elected as the Voice of Cohort 3,” and explained what clarification was needed. She was always respectful, enthusiastic, and supportive of the students and myself. I believe she will be a fabulous nurse. Shukairo also exemplifies the DAISY standard of those who “demonstrate commitment to care and compassion and make the nurse-patient connection that makes such a difference in the healthcare experience” and helps her classmates do the same.
