J was having an exacerbation of his illness with suicidal ideation. This was a dark time for J as well as us. Everyone we talked with from the Stephens Unit was kind and respectful. One nurse stood out above all others: not only to us but to J. Lisa spent long phone calls with me answering questions, offering support, and sharing our concerns over what was happening. She was so understanding and kind. Upon release from the hospital, we asked J if there was a nurse, he wanted to recognize for being special. Without hesitation, he said this nurse.

When I asked him why he said, "because she listened to me and didn't make me feel like I was a bad person." He went on to say, "She helped me through some bad times." Upon hearing this, we knew without a doubt this nurse was the beckon of light and hope placed in our lives! Lisa's tireless effort, her devotion to caring for J, and her knowledge, made such an impression on us. Lisa stands out as a nurse who is willing to go above and beyond in a time of crisis.
