She validated our feelings, fears, and worries. She held my hand. She called me “Mama” and let me comfort my son when I was scared I’d break him.
Corrie became a sense of comfort to us immediately when we found ourselves in the PICU prior to our son’s emergency surgery. Afterward, she became the rock we HAD to lean on in the biggest storm of our lives. When we learned our son needed life-saving blood to keep him alive, Corrie stayed calm and was comforting even when the storm was at its peak of terror. She detailed in terms we could understand, what she was doing - why she was doing it - and what the purpose was, all while my husband and I stood in a corner (to be out of the way), clutching each other as tears of fear fell from our faces. She validated our feelings, fears, and worries. She held my hand. She called me “Mama” and let me comfort my son when I was scared I’d break him. I can’t repay her for saving my son's life, for making us feel “better” during the deepest pit of our lives, or even come up with words that adequately describe our gratitude for her. In that darkness and uncertainty - she was the light.
