Challenges in healthcare have been an understatement since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, it has allowed us to see our true leaders and unsung heroes as they work side by side to assure the health and safety of the healthcare staff. Jessica Maddison's compassion and exemplary practice in meeting the challenges of working with all healthcare team members at the Providence VA was extraordinary. Jessica Maddison created an environment that showed kindness to each staff member. Jessica can support all nurses and staff detailed to employee health with mentoring, enthusiasm, and guidance every step of the way. Her critical thinking and problem solving during challenging times of testing hundreds of staff were instrumental in a successful approach to the covid surge. Working in employee health was a positive learning experience for this nurse and many others and enhanced the image of a VA nurse within the Providence VA system. Her practice follows the VA mission in supporting and providing excellent healthcare that improves their health and wellbeing. In addition, Jessica managed to continue employee health intakes for new employees while managing the employee health team during the surge; this is a sign of a true DAISY Nurse Leader.
