In 2008, I was injured in a rear-end collision by a woman who was texting. I've now had 9 surgeries for the injuries. The pain that I suffered during the post-operative period has been much more severe than all of the other surgeries combined. While the staff is busy all of the time, Gretchen did all she could to anticipate my need for pain medication and anything else I might need to be more comfortable. While the overall level of care I received on R5 is far superior to that I received elsewhere, Gretchen's compassionate care, her anticipation of my needs, her consistently positive attitude, and checking on me impressed me very much. I've been a physician for 46 years and have observed thousands of nurses. To me, Gretchen's approach to patient care is worthy of her being a role model to be emulated.
